Differences in total length and elevation

The minor differences in total length and elevation meters are difficult to control as practically every app performs this type of mapping according to its own algorithms and settings. Nevertheless, the outlined courses on official maps do not differ from the courses entered in the Garmin Connect application, which you can continue to use confidently for preparation, conditioning, and enjoying the views of the hilly Gorenjska region.

The entire course with two loops

The entire course of L'Etape Slovenia 2024 is formed by two loops, the "eastern" one leading towards Škofja Loka with the highest point at the first mountain goal (and the only one for the short course) on Šenturška Gora under Krvavec, and the "western" one with the second mountain goal at Jamnik for the Race - longer course, reached through the ascent through Podblica, where cyclists are always captivated by the unique atmosphere in the spirit of the Tour de France as this is the birth town of Matej Mohorič, the ambassador of L'Etape Slovenia.

Start-finish area

The start-finish area is a recognizable location with a landmark near the central venue at Slovenski trg and is located on Koroška cesta in the section opposite Hotel Creina and Gimnazija Kranj, extending towards the roundabout near Gorenjska banka.

Newness: From Kranj to Škofja Loka

The cycling caravan, with simultaneous starts in Kranj on both courses, will travel on the bypass towards Škofja Loka. Up to kilometer 0, located at 6.6 km near Spodnje Bitnje, it will be in a closed ride behind the first official vehicle, which is not allowed to overtake. Kilometer 0 will be marked on the course with a recognizable sign.

Newness - Race: Towards Zgoša and under the mountains to Bistrica pri Tržiču

After the descent from Jamnik to Kropa, long-distance cyclists continue through Upper Dobrava to Zgoša and then embark on a varied, slightly ascending, but incredibly panoramic road "under the mountains" to Slatna. This road offers beautiful views and the opportunity to enjoy the ride, as crossing the ridge is followed by a descent to Bistrica pri Tržiču.

Newness - Race: Sprint segment measurement

A sprint section will be marked on the course where cyclists have the opportunity to win a green jersey by Tour de France. The section is located on the course at the Estate Brdo–Predoslje, and the new feature is that it will only be counted once for long-distance cyclists (Race) in the first round and not as the sum of twice crossing that section as it used to be in previous editions of L'Etape Slovenia.

Arrival at the finish line

After successfully completing the shorter course (Ride) - the "eastern" loop and the final ascent on Jelenov klanec, short-distance cyclists will finish the race in the start-finish area, while long-distance cyclists (Race), after crossing the same, will continue the Tour de France experience with a descent on the bypass towards Besnica in the second - "western" part of the L'Etape Slovenia 2024 loop. After successfully overcoming Jelenov klanec for the second time, they will finish the trial at the finish line.

Refreshment stations

On the Ride - shorter course, there will be a refreshment station at 52.2 km, and for the longer distance - Race, cyclists will have three refreshment stations at kilometers: 52.2 km, 100.4 km, and 130 km. There will also be a refreshment station at the finish for all participants in the cycling trial.

Memorial medals

Everyone who successfully completes the trial will receive a commemorative medal L'Etape Slovenia by Tour de France 2024.
