Find out the key information about the 2nd edition of L'Etape Slovenia by Tour de France, which will take place on 2 and 3 September 2023 in Kranj.
On the first weekend in September, the Municipality of Kranj together with the Tourism and Culture Board Kranj (Visit Kranj) will host the two-day recreational cycling event L'Etape Slovenia under the auspices of the Tour de France.The varied events will begin on Saturday at 2 pm, when a real village of L'Etape Slovenia will be built on the Slovenski trg, where the partners of the event and many other exhibitors will present themselves. At 3 p.m. children's bike rides will follow, and a little after 4 p.m. a family bike ride. All Saturday cycling tours are free of charge and are made possible by Gorenjska banka, a strategic sponsor of the event.
The highlight of the event is the Sunday’s race
The highlight of the event is the Sunday’s race for amateur cyclists, who will start at 9 a.m. on a 68 km or 136 km long route on closed roads. A colourful caravan of more than 1,000 cyclists from 23 countries will start a race at a controlled pace all the way to kilometre zero in Nemilje. After that point – the epical cycling adventure begins! Each cyclist at his/her own pace, all the way to the KOM at Jamnik. Here and on the way to the top, in Podblica, the birthplace of Matej Mohorič, the ambassador of L'Etape Slovenia, we expect a variety of events and strong encouragement from the fans, as the climb is truly royal.
After descending to Kropa, the caravan of cyclists will continue towards Tržič and through Golnik to Bašelj, and then to Spodnja Bela, past the Brdo Estate, and compete in the sprint segment and finish the circuit by arriving at the Jelenov klanec to the start-finish area in Kranj. The cyclists of a longer route will continue their epic race to the second round.
