The Tour stays in Spain until October

The Tour starts this Saturday the 1st in Bilbao and stays in Spain until October 1 with L'Étape Madrid

06.27.2023 - This weekend begins the favorite season of all road cycling fans. Week of the Grand Depart, the starting week of the Tour de France. The most important race in the world is this year, if possible, even more special for the Spanish fan.

In 2023 it will be the second time that the great French round starts south of the Pyrenees, from Bilbao specifically. The other occasion was in 1992, with an official departure also from the Basque Country. San Sebastián was chosen in that case. A time trial that Miguel Induráin took and that would anticipate the second consecutive yellow jersey for the Navarrese.

The Basque Country will host three stages, July 1, 2 and 3, before the peloton crosses the border on its way to France. 21 stages in total culminating in the classic sprint finish on the Champs-Élysées. On July 23, the competitive side of the Tour de France will end, but his spirit and his identity will not abandon the fans.

Exactly three months later, the L'Étape Madrid by Tour de France presented by Lapierre will start. A cycling sports event that collects everything that makes the great French round special and takes it to the world of fans.

The peloton wearing the classic yellow of the Tour de France, the logistics of the race, the music that accompanies the best cyclists in the world, the historical classifications (mountain, points...) and a whole series of details that make this event something incomparable and very close to his older sister of professionals.

On October 1, Villanueva del Pardillo will take over from that jaune soul that will tour the country starting this weekend. A profile of 153 kilometers and 2,500 meters of altitude that will not envy any of the three Basque stages that will kick off the 2023 Tour de France. A Grande Boucle that begins in just a few hours, but will not end for another three months.
